NAOMI NIE BYŁA PIERWSZĄ, DO CHOLERY !
z dnia: 2007-07-15

Kpt.

Brawo ! "Partiotyzm to pamięc" (Ela Isakiewicz)

Dear Ms Doyle,
Apparently you are the provider of the news titled 'Women and the Sea'.
Most probably you are not aware that this item is perpetuating misinfomation. So I feel obliged to point out to you the persistent attempts of doctoring the history of world yachting. Despite countless ammendments offered that particular bit of wrong information is repeated over decades - by ignorance or design by people who cannot stand the inconvenient truth. My complain and correction are in the attachment. In case you are specializing in topics concerning sailing please accept my message for future reference.
Best regards

Biography Error
Re: File on Naomi James
The statement: “She became the first woman to sail solo around the world” is not true.
The first is Polish yachtswoman Krystyna Chojnowska-Liskiewicz who closed her circumnavigation on 20.03.1978 and reached Las Palmas on 21.04.1978.
Naomi closed her circumnavigation on 28.04.1978 and reached harbour on 8.06.1978. Krystyna was the first woman to sail solo around the world. Naomi was the second.
The proper statement “Dame Naomi James was the second woman to sail solo around the world and the first woman to solo around Cape Horn” is undeniable.
That misinformation appeared recently again in “Women and the Sea” sailing news of Yahoo.com - repeating information sourced from http://sailing.about.com/b/a/216072.htm and http://www.biography.com/search/article.do?id=9352679

Hi Jerzy,
Thank you for the clarification. I'll definitely correct the information on the About.com Sailing site.
For your information, I got the information from a variety of sources, including the Mariner's Museum web site:
http://www.mariner.org/women/timeline/index.htm
If you haven't done so already, I would ask them to correct their records, because it shows up on Google quite frequently.
My apologies,
Alison
